Instead, people will just watch the shows elsewhere or do something else, like reading or working out:-). I am sure the ban will not raise their profits as much as a completely different behaviour would. I can see the point of anti-piracy laws, but this is NOT a solution. The megavideo audience is worldwide, it is not just some limited market. I also think that if these stupid organisations were wise and able to plan long-term, they would have found a way to share the Megavideo profits or would have come up with something themselves to make money on the Internet. Libraries will hopefully not be banned by the US government. It is driving me nuts! I guess I will have to become an avid reader once again. Tonight I have been trying to watch two episodes of my favourite shows on other websites and it sucks! It keeps stopping, loading and reloading all the time. And Megavideo was the best! It worked so smoothly and in good quality. That is why I loved the internet so much, I could watch what I wanted when I had the time to do so.
In case some of them are bought by a Tv channel here, I will most likely not be able to watch them anyway as the broadcasting time of the shows on TV does not usually suit me. I live in a country where there is no chance to see the shows I have been watching on Megavideo. when you try to take people rights in any way they will fight and the harder you push us the harder we push back.finally for any politician that thinks this is a good idea it will hurt you in the long run because you also use these sites and when it comes time for election those of you who messed with a lot of people lives won’t go very far and it will hurt all politicians because a lot of people only see the debates and hear what you have to say from sites like you tube etc.
just because you where the first to think of it in that way does not mean you own it, and when it comes to censoring the internet further you are inter fearing with free speech and freedom of expression. while streaming is illegal this in its self is a fares because a thought can not truly be owned. All it will do is limit our rights and give the government more power.
government is acting foolishly indeed there will always be people who want to get things for free and the acts that they are trying to pass wont actually stop it. The fact of the matter is mega video is gone and the U.S. Latest TV searches:mega video, megavideos, megavideo news, videobb down, sopa megavideo, videobb news Websites such as Google, Facebook and Wikipedia have protested (some with 24hr blackouts) that the internet should remain free and largely uncensored.Įven if the acts are not passed, the shutting down of high a high profile video sharing site shows the intentions of the US Government for the coming year. Although the acts are supposed to help in the fight against piracy and content theft, many think the powers are too great. The site takedown notice comes just after massive website protests against the two piracy bills that are being debated by Congress. Although there re still plenty of others such as Rapidshare etc., the owners of those sites will not be sleeping well, we would imagine.
This is huge news as megaupload was easily one the biggest file-sharing websites on the Internet. The conspirators allegedly earned more than $175 million in illegal profits through advertising revenue and selling premium memberships.” The FBI said of the takedown, “The estimated harm caused by the conspiracy’s criminal conduct to copyright holders is well in excess of $500 million. The shutdown of the high-profile sharing sites could be in direct response to the mass online protests against the planned PIPA and SOPA anti-piracy bills being debated in the US Congress. The Megaupload site was run by a man called Kim Dotcom and six other individuals.
If convicted, the defendants will face up to 20 years in jail and fined up to $175 million. It is reported that the Fed have taken into custody seven individuals, who they say are part of a, “Mega Conspiracy, a worldwide criminal organization whose members engaged in criminal copyright infringement and money laundering on a massive scale”. The sites were shut down by a US government department.
Megaupload and sister site Megavideo were infamous file-sharing and video websites that let users share and watch files, many of them illegal, and many of them movies and TV shows.
